eBike Gravel Ride to Val Belviso, Valtellina

After a few rides with my regular MTB (non-electric), I went back to my eGravel bike. The goal is always to extend the range of my rides and teach (for me) new places.

The destination for the Saturday ride was a beautiful valley on the Orobic Alps, the south side of Valtellina. At the center of the valley, at about 1400 mt, there is a huge dam with its artificial lake.

The ride begins at the Adda river level, early in the morning.
To avoid the traffic on the main road, I took a longer but safer and more panoramic route.
The south side of the valley is covered by a small group of houses. Smaller than a village, those were groups of 3 or 4 farms.
Here, the road starts to climb over 1000 mt, with the landscape looking more and more Alpine.
Despite most of the water being captured and used by the hydroelectric power plants, the creek still runs through the Val Belviso.
Once I reached the dam, I found a great gravel road that runs along the East side of the lake. Great opportunity to relax my muscles after the long climb.
The amount of water everywhere in the valley is incredible. No question why they built a dam here.
I could not notice the abundant yellow flowers (Laburnum alpinum), Alpine Laburnum in English, maggiociondolo in Italian.
Another flower I noticed near the lake is the Digitalis grandiflora (Yellow Foxglove).
On my way home, I stopped at this small reservoir near the hydroelectric plant. Here, the water is stored again and then sent to a new power plant at a lower altitude.
