eBike Gravel Ride to Val d’Arigna, Valtellina

The ride started from my place in Chiuro. I crossed the valley where the farmers were already collecting the first hay of the year. I climbed to the small village of Fontaniva, took the gravel road to the Centrale di Armisa, a small hydroelectric power plant. From there, a very steep trail goes up to the lake.

Stopping before the climb.
The abandoned church of San Mateo.
The Armisa Creek.
The last stretch of the climb is extremely steep. The picture doesn’t show it very well.
Last view of the Valtellina valley before entering the Val d’Arigna.
The pastures around the Forni lake.
View of the artificial reservoir “Bacino dei Forni”, whose main purpose is to collect water for the power plant below.
Wild geranium. So many beautiful flowers are blooming on the side of the trail.
The small dam at the front of the reservoir.
An orchid I observed along the trail. I will have to wait for the blooming to properly identify it.
My electric gravel bike is posing in front of Pizzo Coca (3052 m ASL), one of the highest peaks of the Orobic Alps (Alpi Orobie).
