Windows Hello Authentication on a Multiscreen Can Be Complicated

I’m sure many of you have encountered this UX issue with Microsoft Windows 11. When you have multiple screens connected to your PC, logging into a website using the browser’s facial recognition system on a secondary screen can be frustrating.

The Coordination Challenge

You must look at the camera (usually on the primary screen). At the exact same moment, you must click the button on the modal pop-up displayed on the secondary screen. It can be tricky because the OK button on the “Make sure it’s you” pop-up disappears as you shift your eyes.

Current Workarounds

You essentially have two options:

  • Either click the OK button extremely fast before it disappears on the side screen while looking at the primary screen and at your camera,
  • Or you drag the entire modal popup to the primary screen, then comfortably click the OK button.

This lack of synchronization feels like a clumsy hurdle in an otherwise modern operating system.

A Smarter Solution

What if Microsoft makes the pop-ups associated with facial recognition appear directly on the screen where the camera is? This simple improvement could provide a more seamless experience, reducing the physical strain of looking in two places at once.
